Whitgift Care supports Croydon Commitment’s Christmas Appeal

Christmas Hamper

Croydon Commitment in partnership Whitgift Care and Croydon Neighbourhood Care Association are launching their twelfth Christmas Appeal. The appeal aims to reach out to local vulnerable people during the forthcoming festive season with hampers, toiletries and beauty products.

Whitgift Care has sponsored the 500 canvas hamper bags in which the items will be packed and provided this year’s poster, flyers and social media assets.

#500Croydonhampers will be distributed to over 40 lunch clubs in Croydon and are then delivered to the most senior and isolated people in the neighbourhood.

A recent survey by In Kind Direct has revealed that one in four families have gone without toiletries because of financial difficulties, and more than half of primary teachers who took part in a study said they provide pupils with washing powder, soap and shampoo on a weekly basis because of family hygiene poverty issues. Therefore, Croydon Commitment and its business partners have decided to include toiletries and beauty products in their collections for the first time.

The campaign has partnered with two fantastic national charities The Hygiene Bank and The Beauty Banks who work to tackle hygiene poverty and has three targets:

  • Deliver 500 bags of festive goodies to elderly people across the borough
  • Collect 50 #ITSINTHEBAG for The Hygiene Bank
  • Take a van load of toiletries and beauty products to The Beauty Banks

Martin Corney, Chief Executive, The Whitgift Foundation, said: “Whitgift Care is delighted to support this very worthy cause ensuring that vulnerable people in the local community are able to enjoy a festive treat. We hope the hampers help to bring happiness to people who maybe facing a difficult time this Christmas.”
